Begin with use
Routines, rituals, and operational realities give a project its first and most important form.
Independent studio / Jakarta / Since 2017
thoughtful spaces for real, changing life.

A collaborative practice
Fourteen architects and designers. One shared table.
The studio is intentionally compact. The people defining an idea remain close to it through drawings, models, mock-ups, and construction.
Why we practice
A room can make an ordinary morning feel more generous. A threshold can slow someone down. Good architecture gives these small, consequential moments a place to happen.
Atelier Nara was founded by a belief that rigor and warmth belong together. We do not begin with a signature shape. We begin with questions—about who will use a place, how the day moves through it, what the climate asks, and what can be built well.
Our projects move between architecture and interiors because people experience them as one continuous environment. The result is work that is deliberate, quiet, and specific rather than stylistically repeated.
Working principles
Routines, rituals, and operational realities give a project its first and most important form.
Climate, orientation, craft, memory, and context are active design material—not background information.
We pursue clarity over spectacle so that proportion, light, and material can do the lasting work.
Design continues on site, in conversation with the people who fabricate, build, and inhabit it.
From conversation to construction
Understand the client, site, lifestyle, business, and project constraints.
Develop the spatial direction, concept, and design strategy.
Resolve architecture, interiors, materials, detailing, and visualization.
Coordinate contractors, vendors, site execution, and quality control.
